Take one of the beautiful hiking routes in and around Vammen and experience both recent history and ancient monuments from the Stone Age.
Hiking route 1 – Recreational area
An atmospheric hike through the recreational area of Tjele Langsø, where nature and cultural history merge. Discover the traces of old cave roads, the sheep in the meadows and the rare May Cuckoowort – all just a short walk from the campsite.
Hiking route 2 – Baunehøj (short)
Experience a beautiful route through Vammen with views of Skals Ås meadows and the Ice Age landscape. The route takes you through a meltwater valley up to a distinctive Bronze Age mound – a former beaver mound in a unique location.
Hiking route 3 – Baunehøj (long)
Walk a scenic route through Vammen, past the 13th century church and on through the old Ice Age landscape with meadows, gorges and views of Skals Å. The route takes you up through a meltwater valley to an impressive Bronze Age mound – a former beaver mound used for signaling in times of peace.
Hiking route 4 – View towards Rødsø
Take an atmospheric route through the eastern edge of Vammen, past Langsø Friskole and an ancient monument from the Stone Age overlooking the overgrown Rødsø. The route follows purple and black markings through the open landscape towards Sødal Forest and back via small roads with nature, history and new climate efforts in focus.
Hiking route 5 – Sødal Forest
Explore the landscape around Rødsø and into Sødal Forest, where traces of the Stone Age are hidden between lake, forest and old sawmill stories. A route full of views, ancient monuments and opportunities for peace and contemplation in nature.
Hiking route 6 – Øster Kærvej (short)
Take a varied route through Vammen and on into the old meadow and ice age landscape, passing Vammen Church, an ice age gorge and the rich nature around Skals Å. Along the way, you’ll get views of Hærup Bakker, hear the nightingale and visit the region’s highest point, Rishøj.
Hiking route 7 – Øster Kærvej (long)
The hike takes you through Vammen and out into the old meadows where you pass an ice age gorge, rich birdlife and views of the protected Hærup Hills. Follow the blue route past forest and bog until you return to the town along small, atmospheric roads.
Hiking route 8 – Fastruplund Forest
Take a hike through historic Vammen and out into the open landscape with meadows, forest and views of heather-clad hills. Along the way you’ll pass ice age gorges, bird-rich meadows, a peaceful forest – and reach the highest point in the area, Rishøj.
Hiking route 9 – Fastrup (short)
Take a varied hike towards Fastrup with great views of Tjele Langsø and a trip out onto the lake bridge. The route offers nature experiences, views of cultural institutions and quiet gravel roads through the open landscape around Vammen.
Hiking route 10 – Fastrup (long)
Experience a longer hike through the open countryside towards Fastrup with magnificent views of Tjele Langsø and a trip out onto the lake bridge. The route takes you along peaceful field roads, past small local attractions and back to Vammen along winding gravel roads and rural paths.
Hiking route 11 – Uglhøj and Tinghøje
Go on a historical hike with views of impressive passage graves and views of Tjele Ådal from the distinctive burial mounds at Tinghøje. The route offers both ancient monuments and scenic panoramas – with traces of both past and modern research on the horizon.
