Length: 41 km
A historical bike ride to the Viking fortress Fyrkat near Hobro. Enjoy scenic forests, quiet backroads, and a glimpse into Denmark’s past.
Start at the campsite and ride up to the paved road in Vammen. Turn right onto Hobrovej toward Lindum. At each fork in the road, keep to the left. Turn left at the sign post “Klejtrup” and follow the road through the forest. At the forest junction Erikstrupvej – Drøwten continue straight at the sign post “Klejtrup 2, Hobro 12”. After crossing the Skals Å river keep right at the sign post “Hvornum 2”.
In Hvornum, turn right onto Klejtrupvej. Just after the railway viaduct and the forest, turn left onto Væggedalen toward the sign post “Hobro 7”. In Nr. Onsild, keep left, pass the church, and after about ½ km, turn left onto a gravel road (Bundegårdsvej). Then take the second road to the right (just after a white farm). Note: Do not ride down the steep hill, but follow the edge of the forest.
Follow this gravel road until you reach the paved road. Turn left here and ride directly to Fyrkat – a Viking ring fortress excavated around the year 1000, including a reconstructed Viking longhouse.
Return:
Return the same way, or follow the paved road to Hobro town center. Keep right and follow the main road 180/16 minored south toward Aarhus and Randers. There is a bike path until Viborgvej splits off. Turn right toward the sign post “Viborg 31” on road no. 517. Ride through Onsild. After Sjørring, turn right at the sign post “Vammen 10”. Turn left onto Bygmarksvej to return to the campsite.
