A peaceful bike ride along the disused railway path with detours through forest, lake and charming villages. Perfect for a relaxed day combining nature and local history.
Start at Vammen Camping and turn left on Hobrovej in Vammen. At the junction, turn left onto Tjele Møllevej. Keep left and cross the Tjele River, continuing past the Vester Tjele farm. At Tjele Manor (Denmark’s oldest manor), turn left on 517 direction towards Hobro, and after 200 meters turn right at Tjelevej direction towards Ørum. After 100 meters, turn left (opposite the barn) onto Tjele Skovvej.
Ride across Tjele Manor’s fields and into Sønderhede Plantation. At the forest junction, choose one of two routes:
- 1. Turn right onto the paved road Vingevej, and shortly before Ørum, turn left at the bike path sign onto the paved trail on the former railway line.
- 2. Continue straight on Tjele Skovvej through the forest. After the forest, a paved road begins – turn right at the small T-junction by the transformer, and then immediately left onto the paved bike path on the old railway toward Hammershøj.
Continue straight until the bike path ends in Hammershøj at Vorningvej, then turn left by the “Vestervang” farm toward the north. On the left are a sports hall, an outdoor swimming pool, and a school. In Vorning, turn left after the church toward the sign post “Nr. Vinge” along Holmevej. Ride through a beautiful ravine and past the protected Vinge Mill Lake.
Alternative route:
Continue straight in Vorning. Cross Tjele River, and at the T-junction in Sjørring turn left onto road 517 toward Viborg. After 100 meters, turn right at the sign post “Lindum 2” and “Vammen 10”. In Lindum, continue straight toward Vammen and follow Bygmarksvej back to the campsite.
Alternative route:
Continue straight ahead in Vorning. Pass Tjele Å and at the T-junction in Sjørring, turn left onto road 517 towards Viborg. After 100 meters, turn right onto Lindum Søvej towards the sign Lindum 2 and Vammen 10. In Lindum, continue straight ahead towards Vammen and on to the campsite along Bygmarksvej.
