Length: 11.2 km
Go on a historical hike with views of impressive passage graves and views of Tjele Ådal from the distinctive burial mounds at Tinghøje. The route offers both ancient monuments and scenic panoramas – with traces of both past and modern research on the horizon.
Follow the camping road towards Vammen and keep left in the Y-junction, turn left onto Hobrovej. At the junction by the grocery store, continue straight ahead. Outside the town, a paved bike/hiking trail starts. Follow this.
Where the road towards Tjele = Sønderupvej turns left, continue straight ahead and to the north you’ll see several passage graves. One has an accessible double chamber that with its two openings resembles the head of an owl – hence the name “Uglhøj”.
You are allowed to walk to and into these on foot.
Follow the purple route until it turns north shortly after – marked with a pole with purple markings – you cross Hobrovej and leave the bike path. This is shortly before the farm Tinghøjgård =Tinghøjvej 46.
Just before that, to the south – at the Tinghøje burial mounds – there is a beautiful view down over Tjele Ådal and towards Foulum Forsøgscenter.
Follow the purple marked route to the farm Tingdalgård = Tinghøjvej 28, which you pass on the right and follow the route to the black marked route on Bedehusvej. Turn right and follow this black route to Haugårdsvej. Turn right and go straight ahead until you reach Nørregade. Turn right and at the grocery store intersection, turn left onto Hobrovej.
After about 200 meters, turn right along Langsøvej back to the campsite.
